On Monday, January 16, 2023 the Pink Slips Band announced their new drummer Frankie Burney. If you were at the 2022 Carolina Beach Music Awards in November, you had the pleasure of hearing Frankie on stage with the guys. We've included the band's official release below and we'd like to congratulate Frankie and we look forward to seeing the guys on the road soon. “RE”introducing FRANKIE BURNEY!
The Pink Slips Band is proud to “re”introduce you to Frankie Burney! Frankie is a very familiar face in the band as he has been our front of house sound engineer for the past 4 years. Recently our drummer, Billy Prease, decided to bid farewell to the band in order to spend more time with his grandchildren and travel with his lovely bride. With Billy’s departure, Frankie stepped up with interest in filling the spot of drummer with the band.
Frankie started showing signs of rhythm at a very young age, tapping on the dashboard, counter top, or anything else he was near while listening to music. His parents bought his first drum set when he was in the fourth grade. Frankie's inspiration as a child was Peter Criss, the drummer of the band Kiss. He liked Peter because he played drums and sang. Frankie played with too many bands to count from ages 15 to 30 including Catch 22, Scott Free, Atlantic Spotlight, several young garage bands, and was the original drummer for The Blackwater Band. In 2008, Frankie was in an auto accident that took half of his right arm. The loss of his arm hindered his drumming. With unmatched dedication, perseverance, and practice, he has developed a method of drumming that you would never know he doesn’t have 2 arms! After many years of not playing drums full time Frankie has stepped up to the plate, shown what he has to offer, and blown people away with his growth and abilities. We are beyond proud to announce that he is the new drummer for The Pink Slips Band.
Frankie worked as a specialist with autistic children, contracting with Whiteville City Schools, for 15 years until being forced into retirement in 2009 by the accident. He is a walking miracle and living proof that life can knock you down but as long as you're determined you'll come back swinging (or drumming) stronger than ever. When not with the band Frankie breeds and sells ball pythons, he is also the District Director for Dixie Youth Baseball in Bladen and Columbus County. Frankie and his wife, Christy, have 2 grown children, Whitney and husband BJ, and Sky. They have 3 amazing grandchildren, Riley Grace, Hunter and Aubree.
With this transition we will miss having Billy on the backline. Billy was essential in the formation of The Pink Slips Band and contributed in more ways than we can count. At the same time we know that Frankie is the perfect person to fill those shoes and we are beyond excited where he will take us in 2023 and beyond. Show Frankie some love and next time you see him at a gig make sure to say hey!"
