Since April, Gary Barker of the Catalinas has been sick with COVID and so many prayers have been extended over social media as well as through cards and other sources. His wife Cyndy made the following post on May 12, 2021; "Thank you all for Garys cards!  He will enjoy them all! And thanks for my cards too! Thank You for the prayers and support!  We love you all!!!"

Johnny Barker setup a GoFund me to help offset the medical bills for Gary's treatment. The GoFundMe page reads: "Gary Barker has been the glue and driving force that has held The Catalinas together since 1965.  He had never missed a job in his 56 years with the band until Friday May 14, 2021. His dedication to his craft is unquestionable. Gary has spent the past month in the hospital fighting Covid-19. Now we need your help. Rehabilitation is only covered by insurance for 3 weeks.
