July 20, 2020 Saturday, July 18, 2020 we received the sad news of the passing of legendary DJ, Gary Bass. He will be missed by so many that he's touched through friendships as well as throughout his music career. It wasn't often the we'd visit Fat Harold's and not see him in one of the DJ booths or somewhere in the building. Full of life and a lot of fun we'll certainly miss the great conversations with Gary. Our prayers go out to his family during this time along with the Beach Music Community. For service information, to read his obituary and to send your condolences to the family, please use the link below!

July 8, 2020 In three emails shared earlier today, they've released information on Cammy weekend in November along with an extended nomination window due to COVID-19. We have information from all of the messages below. **Please note** as of right now (Wednesday, July 8, 2020), Cammy weekend HAS NOT been canceled. They're not making the determination at this time but they do plan on announcing the plans during the nomination announcement show that will broadcast live on 94.9 FM The Surf on Friday, September 25, 2020. Stay tuned for more updates! Also if you haven't joined the academy yet, you can visit this link for more information.
Due to the Covid19 pandemic, it does not look like the 2020 CBMA Weekend will be taking place due to the rising surge in the virus and the age demographic of many of our supporters. Currently, we are still planning to do the nomination and voting process and to have some sort of either small scale event at OD Resort and/or a virtual event in November to present the awards. We are not making a final decision at this time for the weekend but plan on making an announcement during the September Nomination Announcements on 94.9FM The Surf on Friday September 25th as to what type and kind of event we will have in November. We are extending the Nomination window this year until July 31st for availability for a project to be nominated due to the virus. Ballots will be mailed and/or emailed around July 20th so you can have some time to get them filled out and back in by the August 14th Deadline. ****There have been some changes on this year’s ballots in the following categories, 1.) All projects must now be released “and charted” by the deadline. In prior years, the project was eligible if released “and played” by the deadline on at least 3 or more shows. 2.) FM & AM Radio DJ have been combined to Radio DJ of the Year. We will allow up to 7 Nominees in this one category. This change came about as of a result of the many networks doing shows on many different formats which made the category hard to define fairly. 3.) Rising Star has changed the Eligibility period from 3 years to 5 years due to the lack of new artist entering the industry. We here at CBMA are keeping a close eye on the Covid-19 situation and hope and pray that this pandemic will end soon and we can all get back to the Live Carolina Beach & Shag Music we love so much!! Please support your local businesses that are struggling to stay afloat and make sure that when the time comes to patronize those establishments that keep our music and dance alive. Last year with the help and direction of Bo "The Web Guy" Gilbert, we found out it is possible to do the Nominations and Voting online which we might have to do 100% this year due to the Coronavirus and postal restrictions.

The Beach Music community is mourning the loss of Hugh "Tuff" Blanton as it was shared by his band Cat5 that he passed away earlier this morning at his home. In their Facebook post the band continued: "Hugh was a staple in our industry having played for the Entertainers, Breeze Band, Spare Change, Unknown Hinson, The Embers, Jim Quick and The Cat5 Band. People will remember him more for his personality and being a great family man and good husband. That smile was always on display to help make the world a better place. Our Hearts and Prayers go out to his wife Tammy, Daughter Nicole and sons Derrick and Braden, and all the Blanton family during this most difficult time. Arrangements are still being made and will be announced once finalized. We are going to miss you Tuff. You were an inspiration to everyone you came in contact with and forever will be a Cat5 StormChaser.Much love to you our brother." So many in our community have prayed for Tuff since it was announced in October and he certainly leaves a huge void in the Beach Music industry. Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to his family as well as his close friends and band mates during this time. Once service information has been announced we'll be sure to include that information on our website. Friday, June 19 2020
We do our best here at Flip Flop Live to keep our event calendar updated but of course like most bands, artists, DJs, shag clubs and venue calendars, the COVID-19 pandemic has completely changed the way we do things the past couple of months. We HIGHLY encourage you to check with the venue or entertainer listed on any event on our calendar to confirm it will still be held as scheduled. While we do list/create many of the events on our platforms, the majority are hosted by others are updated on their end and we have no control over the information listed. At times it seems as though some areas on the East Coast are getting back to "normal" but plans are changing quickly and we try our best to keep things updated daily but it's not getting any easier. Should you need the address or phone number to the various venues we have those available on our Venue Page. If you're a venue owner and you're not listed here, please contact us today so that we can add your information for our visitors. Stay safe, keep supporting Beach Music and we hope to see everyone soon! Thursday, June 18 2020
Photo property of Andy Swindell In a Facebook post earlier today, Thursday June 18, 2020, Andy Swindell announced his departure from The Embers featuring Craig Woolard. His post included: " With Covid 19, I am in a high risk group (I’m 67), and just recovered from pneumonia. The band has/had some actual live jobs, but I just don’t feel that it’s a good decision for me to play them. I wish Craig and the guys nothing but the best, and hope that they’re able to safely play a full calendar soon.My plans are to keep writing and recording as much as I am able. The creative process is what’s kept me involved and motivated my entire life, and I thank God that I have something so challenging to keep me sane and happy. It is my hope that you folks will continue to hang out with me on Facebook. And, hopefully, you will enjoy my future efforts. God bless us all!" We wish Andy nothing but the best in his future endeavors and his talent and voice will certainly be missed on the stage and in the future recordings with The Embers. You can see Andy's original post below along with links to his social media pages and his website so that you're able to keep up with him.
